ABC MEMBERS CHOSEN AS ENR’S TOP NEWSMAKERS OF 2008  (04/08/2009)
John Tocci, president and CEO of Tocci Building Corp., Woburn, Mass., and Bob Bailey, a manager of human resources and risk management for FABCO, an independent Caterpillar equipment dealership based in Madison, Wis., March 26 were recognized by Engineering News-Record for being among the top 25 newsmakers of 2008.

Tocci, a member of ABC’s Massachusetts chapter and a leader in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) on construction projects, was recognized for pioneering a successful BIM forum three years ago.  In addition, Tocci Building Corp. received an Excellence in Construction Merit Award in 2008 from ABC’s Massachusetts chapter for constructing a $30 million, two-hotel campus for Starwood International Hotels and Resorts.  Tocci utilized BIM on the 123- and 136-room properties and built the first building in New England to achieve gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Design (LEED) green building rating system.

Bailey, a member of ABC’s Wisconsin chapter, helped create FABTECH, a new training program at Fox Valley Technical College in Oshkosh, Wis., that is a combination of a technical college education and hands-on experience gained from FABCO equipment and expertise.  During the program, students work towards achieving an associate degree with the promise of a job waiting for them at the end.  The first class of students graduated from FABTEC in the fall of 2008 and there has been an overwhelming response to the program with applications coming in from across the state.

“ABC is proud to have members who recognize the importance of being on the cutting-edge of trends in the construction industry,” said 2009 ABC National Chairman Jerry Gorski, president of Gorski Engineering, Inc., Collegeville, Pa.  “We congratulate both of these men for their dedication and for their ability to continuously raise the bar for themselves and others in their chosen fields.”
