KLINE SELECTED RANKING MEMBER OF HOUSE EDUCATION AND LABOR COMMITTEE  (06/17/2009)
Rep. John Kline (R-Minn.) June 17 was selected ranking member of the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee. The vote to approve Kline for the job came during a meeting of the 28-member House Republican Steering Committee. Kline replaces Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon (R-Calif.), who left the post last week to serve as the top Republican on the Armed Services Committee.

Kline has been a solid supporter of many issues important to ABC members. In April, Kline introduced the Green Jobs Improvement Act of 2009, legislation that would expand a provision in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 to allow merit shop construction training programs to receive federal funding. In the 110th Congress, Kline led the fight against the Employee Free Choice Act, or “card check” legislation. For his efforts on Capitol Hill, Kline was named ABC’s Free Enterprise Legislator of the Year in 2007.
