OSHA RENEWS GRANT FOR ABC SAFETY TRAINING PROGRAM (05/20/2009)
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) renewed its $178,426 Susan Harwood training grant for ABC’s industry-leading Strengthen Training Infrastructure and Competency for Construction Safety (STICCS) training program.

This marks the 9th time since 2000 that OSHA has awarded a Harwood training grant to support the STICCS program, which is administered by ABC’s Trimmer Education Foundation and provides safety training for construction industry employees through various ABC chapters. Combined, ABC has trained more than 19,000 construction industry professionals through its OSHA Harwood training grant programs.

The STICCS training program will consist of a two-hour training course designed to educate students in identification and abatement of the “Focus Four” hazards—caught in-between, electrocution, struck-by and falls from height. These four hazards account for 90 percent of all construction industry fatalities.

Courses will be offered from April 2009 through March 2010 at various ABC chapters in each of OSHA’s 10 regions, continuing ABC’s tradition of comprehensive national training coverage. Each chapter must meet or exceed OSHA and ABC requirements in order to offer STICCS grant program training.
