Labor and employment attorneys that counsel merit shop construction firms will be able to take advantage of two interactive sessions on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) recent shift toward heavy enforcement during ABC’s 2009 Attorneys Conference, to be held Dec. 2-4 at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, D.C.
The first session will feature an OSHA representative’s perspective on pending legislation to amend the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the significant changes OSHA has already implemented that will affect merit shop construction firms.
Edwin Foulke, Esq. of Fisher & Phillips, Atlanta, and head of OSHA from April 2006 to November 2008, will offer insights into the Obama administration’s safety and health agenda from the perspective of a management attorney. He will discuss how to prepare for upcoming legislation and how to respond to current changes.
In addition, during the two-day conference, attorneys will have the opportunity to advance their knowledge and share ideas about labor law and open competition with peers from across the nation. The program will feature labor law experts from both the private and public sectors.
Conference sessions will seek input from participants on developing legal strategies to help coordinate and advance the interests of merit shop contractors. This conference will equip attorneys to effectively advise their clients on topics including updates on President Obama’s project labor agreement executive order; insights into current and pending legislation in labor and employment law; new developments in court cases fighting job targeting tactics; outlook and expectations for the National Labor Relations Board; and strategies for compliance with independent contractor misclassification and overtime claims.
