Mark Loizeaux, president of Controlled Demolition, Inc., Phoenix, Md., a member of the ABC Baltimore Metro Chapter, April 8 was recognized by
Engineering News-Record (ENR) for being among the top newsmakers of 2009.
Loizeaux was honored for the demolition of a 380-foot tall structurally deficient building in South Padre Island, Texas. The building was surrounded by protected sand dunes, the Gulf of Mexico, several roads and was located only 12 feet from the property line of a residential development. Despite the challenges, Loizeaux and his company were able to successfully demolish the building without any injuries or other incidents on Dec. 31, 2009.
Loizeaux has been deemed a top newsmaker by ENR four times since 1972.
