MICHAEL J. UREMOVICH SWORN IN AS 2010 CHAIRMAN-ELECT OF ABC  (02/03/2010)
Michael J. Uremovich, founder CEO and chairman of the board of STARCON International, Manhattan, Ill., Feb. 3 was sworn in as ABC national chairman-elect at ABC’s 2010 National Convention in San Diego. The ceremony occurred during ABC’s national board of directors meeting. Uremovich officially began his one-year term as chairman-elect on Jan. 1.

“Mike has a notable record of ABC service both at the national and chapter levels,” said ABC President and CEO Kirk Pickerel. “His dedication to advancing the principles of the merit shop and his commitment to working to achieve his goals will serve him well as he prepares to assume the duties of chairman next year.”  

Since becoming active in ABC in 1986, Uremovich has served on several committees and is currently the executive committee liaison to the Chapter Presidents Executive Committee and the Member Services Coordinating Committee, as well as an ABC Political Action Committee trustee. In 2005, ABC presented him with its prestigious Grassroots Member of Year Award.   

STARCON, the industrial and mechanical contracting firm Uremovich founded in 1983, has grown into a $200-million-a-year company specializing in servicing the petrochemical industry. The company now has more than 700 full-time team members and has performed work in five different countries. STARCON is a member of ABC chapters in Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio and Texas.        

Uremovich currently holds two U.S. patents for devices associated with the oil and petrochemical industry.
