ABC and the Modular Building Institute (MBI) March 4 announced a formation of the Start Today and Rebuild Together (START) alliance that will leverage the resources of the construction industry, nongovernmental organizations, and government agencies to respond quickly and efficiently with relief and rebuilding efforts following natural disasters.
“There is no greater calling than to assist those in communities that have been struck by natural disasters, and we are proud to share this opportunity with the Modular Building Institute,” said ABC President and CEO Kirk Pickerel. “Whether it is Haiti, New Orleans, or some other part of the United States or the world, ABC members have expressed a willingness to get involved in the rebuilding effort.”
The first initiative, START Haiti, will help the country rebuild after January’s 7.0 magnitude earthquake. START Haiti gives ABC and MBI member companies an avenue for raising funds and sending modular containers outfitted with medical supplies to Haiti. By working with Volunteers of American and Architecture for Humanity, among other groups, the alliance will ensure clean and adequate facilities are in place for the people of Haiti in a timely and orderly manner.
