The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) March 9 released the
Tower Crane Operator curriculum as part of its 2010 Contren Learning Series.
The release of the crane operator curriculum comes in advance of an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rule expected this summer that will update the 40-year-old crane and derricks standard and includes a requirement that crane operators be certified. The NCCER
Tower Crane Operator curriculum offers certification that will comply with the OSHA requirements.
The
Tower Crane Operator presents real-life scenarios similar to those construction professionals might encounter in the field and offers tips on how to react. The content covers topics including an introduction to crane operating, principles of tower cranes, safety, rigging, load charts and tower crane operations. It also includes key terms and quizzes.
The curriculum was developed in conjunction with Pearson, a leading textbook publisher, and incorporated input from subject matter experts. Students who complete the curriculum through an Accredited Training Sponsor will earn industry-recognized credentials through NCCER’s National Registry.
