ABC Sept. 27 sent a letter to the U.S. Senate stating that the Creating American Jobs and Ending Offshoring Act (S. 3816) fails to eliminate uncertainty for businesses and lacks a comprehensive approach to reviving the economy and creating jobs.
In the letter, ABC wrote that it supports immediate action to spur job creation, such as decreasing the tax burden, focusing on free enterprise initiatives and open competition, and increasing access to capital. Specifically, ABC pointed out that one of the biggest obstacles to increased economic growth is the complex and ever changing tax code. ABC suggested that meaningful tax relief that leads directly to job creation must be provided by extending the 2001 and 2003 individual tax rates for all income brackets.
In order to effectively create jobs, ABC also wrote that the following key issues must be addressed, as detailed in their Jobs Creation Proposal: eliminate uncertainty in the business environment by focusing on free enterprise initiatives and open competition instead of anti-business legislative and regulatory proposals; end the freeze on lending for private sector construction projects; enact a national comprehensive energy plan that includes new construction and upgrades to the nation’s insufficient and crumbling infrastructure; and lift Davis-Bacon Act requirements on stimulus funds.
